Duo Similarities OMM

Candy and his dogs relationship are similar to George and Lennie’s because one doesn’t want to leave the other, but one is obvoiusly holding another back from something. Candy’s dog and Lennie are both weak but in different parts, Lennie is weak in the brain which keeps him and George from accomplishing their goal. And Candy’s dog is weak from age and is physically weak in general. His dog isn’t good for anything now, other than the fact he’s had it all of it’s life.

Do you think most of us are too reliant on tech? What are some benefits of technology?

I think some people are too reliant on technology, some have let it take over their lives by constantly being on it and depending on it. Others know when to limit themsleves and understand the dangers of being on technology too much.

There are many benefits of technology, some have made jobs and everyday things more efficent. It doesn’t end at industrial uses either, it is great for enteritainment now and is probably the most common sourse of enetrtainment.

TIQA Paragraphs Link

Similarities

Poor Self Image

Teenage Acne Mental Health Affects

“I don’t have a skin doctor and you can’t actually die of zits. But you can die of shame. And, trust me, my zit shame is killing me. “

Teens today suffer from poor self esteem a lot, most teens’ mental health is dictated by their self esteem and things like acne can make it much worse.

Loneliness

Teens and loneliness

“But I really get the feeling this white kid could save me from being lonely”

Teens have always struggled with loneliness. The path to adulthood causes this, things like separation from friend groups and parents over time. Even without isolation, teens tend to feel lonely. Teens that have suffered trauma or had an adverse childhood are more likely to feel lonely.

Anger

Teenage Anger

“I get into arguments and fistfights with everybody. I get so angry I go blind, deaf, and mute.”

Teenagers are pushing boundaries, learning to become more independent, and going into adulthood. So these are reasons they can be emotional, with the main emotion being anger. With this they can be threatening and verbally abusive, which can be a red flag. And substance abuse can be the root of some of these problems.

Differences

Poor Self Image

Teenagers and Self Esteem

Teenagers that feel good about themselves are less likley to develop anxiety, depression, and resort to substance abuse. Praise and emotional support help this.

Lonlieness

Teenagers and not being lonely

This study shows that neglected children tend to feel the effects of being lonely more harshly than other children might. Children with both parents that weren’t neglected had positive effects on their mental health.

Anger

Teenage Anger

This article says thaat 2/3 of teenagers had anger attacks that resulted in threatened or real violence. The other 1/3 there were no reports on how they behaved.

Challenged Books Topic

I don’t read a lot of books and most of them aren’t too inappropriate so i think fewer than 2 of the books I’ve read have been challenged. I think books are challenged because of offensiveness and graphicness. Flight might’ve been challenged because of the stereotypical racism of Native Americans. Zits is a drunk and a violent person, so that might make him a bit controversial.

Book appropriateness

I feel books with heavy sexual content should not be accessible to teenagers or children. Middle-aged women who aren’t happy with their husbands have exposed me to some of those types of books on Instagram Reels. Maybe my algorithm is trying to get me off my phone by showing me this weird stuff, but I feel that it is just not acceptable to have that for younger people to read.

What do you think is the most important aspect (part) of Zits’ character? What defines him the most? Do you feel he is an accurate depiction of a teen? Why?

There are two important parts of Zits’ character; his race, and the fact that he is a foster child with so much trauma. With being a Native American, he is already oppressed because of racism how they are to live in the United States. Plus, he has been through many foster homes because his parents are gone and foster homes are not pleasant, “When it comes to foster parents, there are only two kinds: the good but messy people who are trying to help or the absolute welfare vultures who like to cash government checks every month.” The most important part about Zits’ character is defined by who he is and what he has been through.

Zits’ is not an accurate depiction of a teen, Zits is a one-in-a-million type of teen. He has a lot of family-related trauma and is a lawbreaker. Some teens get into some trouble every once in a while, but Zits knows a cop personally from being arrested so many times and made multiple trips to juvenile detention centers.
